Namazu and the roar of a wave

First came the earthquake, then the wave.

So many hearts going out to Japan today.

Japan has done this before, and they know they'll be doing it again. A recurring cultural trauma.

Yes indeed. This is cataclysmic. And so soon after New Zealand.

When I first heard of the earthquake and tsunami, Hokusai's "Great Wave" came to mind. I was thinking of how the image of the wave must figure in Japanese culture. I did not know about the catfish as being connected with an earthquake.
My thoughts are with the people of Japan. The extent of the destruction is almost impossible to fathom.

i donated through the American Red Cross...I can't imagine the suffering and heart break the Japanese are going through. And now their reactors....my heart is aching for them.

It is what happens after the wave, the beauty that yields to utter destruction. And now, all I can think about are nuclear meltdowns. My deepest sympathy to the people of Japan.
