SOMETHING BREAKS THE HEART OPEN
"God breaks the heart
again and again and again
until it stays
OPEN."
Hazrat Inayat Khan
(quote from February 17, 2008, a post on caregiving)
Something breaks the heart open, that's for sure. Each tradition and non-tradition has its own word or absence of word for that something. The word I choose to use is "Love."
A book worth reading.
("Gifts Of Love From Imaginary Brothers" painted in gouache and watercolor on paper by Old Girl Of The North Country in 1989)

I love the title of this post. I've never thought about the heart opening in these terms. I always thought metaphorically the way a flower opens without breaking.
The door to my heart, was locked and blocked. Only after I loved and lost, blasting it off it's hinges, did I understand how small my life had been. It could never after close. At all.
I love the painting. The red sky especially especially.
beautiful painting. And the book is truly a find.
This painting is definitely one of my favorites!
Thank you so much for your comment on my blog - I LOVE music. After all, "Music IS my boyfriend." Even though my music library is vast, I have probably spent more time listening to Dylan than any other. OK, so I don't really "wanna be Bob Dylan" today, but doesn't everyone want to be Bob Dylan at some point in their lives? I saw him in concert twice. Once, many moons ago and he was awesome. The second time was a few years ago and it was bizarre ... I expected, going into it, that he's one of the ancients and age probably had gotten the better of him. This proved to be true. The disturbing part was his attitude - not even attempting to connect with the crowd. Life on the road after so many years is probably a real drag, but his whole demeanor was surly and strange. OK, so I just need to remember the Dylan of old ...
LOVE. Love is the answer. My walking meditation as of late has been all about LOVE.
beautiful! love your work!
The dream - I have seen Dylan in concert many, many times. And each time was different, and magical in its own way. Did he ever want to 'connect with the crowd'? I think not. Except via his words and music. Which are eternal. And age gets the better of us all..!
Hi Solitary Walker-
Actually, I thought Dylan was engaging years ago ... but it may have been a fluke. Don't get me wrong - he IS and always will be A GREAT AMERICAN POET. Indeed, aging does get the better of some.
Wonderful painting, such vibrant colours, and I like the border too
