AS I WAS WAKING UP THIS MORNING

As I was waking up this morning, my first thoughts were anxious ones. Immediately I began to try to figure things out. Suddenly I remembered the words I heard from Jack Fate/Bob Dylan at the end of the film titled "Masked and Anonymous":

"I stopped trying to figure everything out a long time ago."

and I felt my anxiety slip away.

Listen.

I know that Bob Dylan's words and music don't have this effect on everyone, but they worked for me this morning.

"Understanding is the ultimate seduction of the mind. Go to the truth beyond the mind. Love is the bridge."
(Stephen Levine).

That's Oboe looking through the Poor Man's Orchids at me with my camera. She is curious, but she doesn't try to figure everything out (-:

Can you see the sunflower? A friend who sells and delivers fresh vegetables from her garden brought it this morning.

am - I gave up trying to figure things out a long time ago too. The other day, my mom was telling me that she has awakened to feeling a lot of anxiety -- partly because I'm going on the road and won't be around for awhile. Yesterday, I said to her, "Try to think of everything in this world as temporary - nothing is forever - not good and not bad - we can almost always change things if we are willing to let go and move toward where we want to be." I live that way most of the time now. No real past, no future beyond a couple of days from now. I know that way of thinking won't work for everyone, but for me, it's an important survival skill. Learning not to try to figure things out is an important part of it.

Oboe doesn't need to try to figure anything out because she already knows and can't understand why we don't. And if we don't, why that's not O.K. too. She is wise, that Oboe of yours! love to you both from the art farm!
