What kind of flower is that, am?

Don't think I've ever seen one like it before.

I didn't know either until R.L. from Grauhlet, France, identified it for me.

It is Dianthus or Sweet William and first bloomed on Mother's Day this year. Seems to like this climate and is very happy in the planters on my porch.

Beautiful flower shot, am. I'm finding that I don't have much say these days either.

Fortunately, we don't always have to say too much, especially among friends. A beautiful photo is plenty. I had Sweet William growing in the garden at my farm and should look for some to plant here in Nova Scotia. This week, I've been busy planting perennials. I had no intention of working on the gardens quite this soon, but a woman in this area was reducing the size of her cut flower operations and selling off plants for such a low price that I couldn't resist. I've been busy digging up beds for everything in every spare minute this week. The nice thing is that many of the plants are ones I had back at my farm and just could not manage to bring with me. It gives me such pleasure to see leaves that are as familiar to me as my own hands. Interesting how such things can be so meaningful to us.

Thank you for stopping by, robin andrea and bev. That's so true that there are times when we speak more through pictures than through words. I look forward to both your words and your pictures.

A Bellingham friend of mine and her husband just bought a small home on 1/2 acre of land with fruit trees and established garden on the north side of Bellingham. It is the first home that they have owned. They are in their 50s. Like both of you, she is eager to work in the garden. This is a sweet time of year to be in a new home.
