Untitled Scene (1986)

When I showed this image to a friend, he said, "Aikido." Until that time I was not familiar with Aikido. I had borrowed the gestures from an image I found in a newspaper photograph and put them in an ocean landscape.

This seems like quite a change from the pictures you've previously published, am.

I find it fascinating to watch your style evolve, or, at least change, over time.

I've just taken a look at the past few paintings you've posted. Wow, am. Fantastic! I like this "untitled scene," and I especially like the series of where walls meet. Great colors and details. Really gorgeous. I am drawn to art that has an asian style, and I'm not really sure what about those pieces makes them feel that way, but they do. How large are those paintings?

loren -- The end of a troubled marriage and the beginning of recovery from an eating disorder resulted in a waves of creative energy that seemed to have no end for a several years. I appreciate your comments.

robin andrea -- Thanks for your enthusiasm for the recent images I've posted. Several of the artists who influenced me were influenced by having seen and admired Japanese woodblock prints. My major influence starting at about this point in my work was Jacob Lawrence.

Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec, Gaugin and Cassatt, also strong influences, admired Japanese woodblock prints.

"Untitled Scene" is 12 x 16 inches. The images "where two walls meet" are 18 x 24, 8 x 11, 18 x 24, 18 x 24, 9 x 15 and 8 x 11. All are slightly larger overall when matted and framed.
