BELLINGHAM SPECTRUM SERIES: DURING THE WAR (2007)

This is the last painting, for now, of the Bellingham Spectrum series, 25 paintings created between March 1 and May 17, 2007. Yesterday I delivered "BELLINGHAM SPECTRUM SERIES: RED #1" (see the post for July 31, 2007) for jurying at a local art gallery. I'll find out tomorrow morning whether it has been accepted on a commission basis.

I hope all went well with the gallery. Red#1 is a wonderful painting, as is the one in this post. When I look at this series, there's something about it that makes me think of Hiroshige's "Provinces" series. In a couple of them -- Black #1 and also "During the War", the shapes feel like they are building up into a wall of water like a tsunami wave - particularly Black #1 in which the "pieces" feel wild and agitated to me.

Bev -- As always, thanks for visiting and for your appreciation of my art work. Thank you for mentioning Hiroshige's "Provinces" series. I am familiar with some of Hiroshige's work, but not familiar with that series. What a lift it gave me to see those 60 images on the internet after a challenging day today.

The gallery's jurying committee said that "Red #1" isn't what they are looking for, but the manager told me she liked it very much and suggested two other galleries who might be interested. Today I have a job possibility, the possibility of being certified as a yoga teacher via an intensive workshop in September and the possibility of becoming a massage therapist, along with the always nebulous possibility of selling my art work. In the next few days I need to make some decisions about which vocational path to choose. Art is a given.

Am - Yes, aren't those "Provinces" paintings quite beautiful - I find them at once exciting and yet serene.
It seems that you have a number of choices to make all at once. Isn't that always how it is? "Red #1" is a beautiful work, so I'm sure it will interest one of the other galleries. Good luck with it, and with whichever choice you decide to follow.
